Searching for the American Dream

Apparently, the government hates fat people.

I mean, they force students to take those humiliating gym classes (which do nothing, by the way), they regulate the cafeteria food (French fries are going to be ILLEGAL in my school in 2009), and they take away our television by forcing the writers to go on strike! Ok, so that last one was a lie, but maybe its not, who knows? The government is full of conspiracy so... it's believable.

But, back to my case. On the news the other night, a statistic showed that the childhood obesity rate is sky high and that the next generation have sliced a nice hearty 5-7 years off their life expectancy because of it. That is the main reason why the government is turning the nation's schools into brainwashing fitness camps of 'healthiness'. Whatever happened to our freedom? McDonald's and friends kidnapped it, ran it over with a fully-loaded SUV (complete with biggie-size cup holders), and then strangled it with a PlayStation cord. I rest my case.

Who's to blame for this travesty? Although small children immensely bother me with their Bratz dolls and Spongebob video games, it's not really their fault. Who buys them the annoying video games? Who stuffs them full of fries and Big Macs? Who are the ones with the jobs and have the money? Who?

The parents. The adults. Obvious point, yes?

I'm not saying we should boycott video games and fast food, I love those just as much as the next teenager. What needs to be done is for adults to take a spoonful of common sense. Rationality is a good solution here.

The fact of the matter is that Americans are LAZY. I'm not afraid to say it because it is the TRUTH. Parents: you get upset when your nine year old weighs 120 pounds and are at risk for everything under the sun, but who buys them the fattening foods? Who is too lazy to just drive by the fast food stop and just go home and cook a meal? Fast food is fine when taken in moderation, but everyday is just ridiculous. No one, and I mean no one, is so extremely busy that they HAVE to visit the golden arches on a daily basis. The time you spend placing your order at the drive through could be the same amount of time that could be spent making a meal AT HOME. That's why we have kitchens in our houses. This lazy mindset only passes on to the next generation, who watch and record our every move into their sponge-like little minds.

How about families act like families for once? This involves sitting down for a dinner that they helped cook together and just living life as its meant to be. No worries on whether or not children will live to the age they are expected to due to obesity. How about parents stop being lazy and spend time with their children, instead of plugging in the Television every time they make a noise or ask for attention. What kind of message do these actions send? Children will mimic. They will mimic how their parents treated them. If their parents ignored them with the TV and never had a sit-down dinner with them, how will they know what to do with their children?

To protect the future, something must be done now. Laziness and ignorance are more of an epidemic than obesity, because those actions (or lack of actions) are what cause it.

Whatever happened to the American dream of white picket fences, family picnics in the park, puppy dogs, and 2.4 children? Our dreams are plagued with golden arches, game consoles, statistics, and the TV Schedule, nowadays.

My message may have drifted from the origional point of my rant, but all of these ideas are interrealted. we may never find a way to solve these problems, but at least we know what they are. If people just took a moment and payed attention to what they were doing, then maybe the world would be a better place.

(I was about to post this when a commercial about childhood obesity from Capitol Blue Cross came on. The irony is almost too much to handle. Although, they didn't do anything with their ad. Their message had no point, which is MY point exactly. The world chooses to do nothing... when they most certainly could do sometihng meaningful.)

Introduction

Greetings, people of the Internet.

My name is... well, you shall know me as Lynne. I intend for this blog to be a place of ranting, reviwing, and retrospecting (more so because that last one just sounds cool and I needed another 'R' word. I don't really know what it means). I've kept hand-written journals on my thoughts before, as many people do, and those who've been priveledged to lay eyes on my musings have told me that I am very insightful. Insightful into what people actually think, but never say.

I'm a girl of action, so here is where I will do my 'saying'. What good does it do anyone when my brilliance is only between me, myself and I?

That's what I thought.

Here, I will be writing about everything from rants on school to philosophies concerning my view of life. I'm tired of my old journals, as the pile of them is growing ever steep and my room is cluttered enough. Even though clutter and messiness is a sigh of genius, there comes a time when enough is enough. There's enough genius on my floor to wallpaper my entire house...

To anyone who comes across this page in the realms of the interweb, I warn you to brace yourself. Sarcasm and rationality are the rulers of this domain. There is no sugarcoating here, for this is not a donut shop.
